TESSAN Power Strips, Outlet Extenders and Travel Adapters: Which One to Buy (2026)

TESSAN is the brand you end up buying when you search Amazon for a power strip and sort by rating. It’s a Chinese electronics maker that sells almost nothing except plugs, strips, extenders and travel adapters, and it sells a lot of them: its European travel adapter alone moves around 10,000 units a month, and four of its listings sit at 4.7 or 4.8 stars with several thousand reviews each. The problem isn’t whether TESSAN is good. It’s that the catalog has about forty listings that look the same in a thumbnail, and the differences — cord or no cord, flat plug or regular, adapter or converter — are exactly the ones that decide whether the thing works where you want to put it.

We didn’t run electrical tests. We read the listings, the spec sheets and the one-, two- and five-star reviews for every current TESSAN product sold in the US, and we sorted them by the job they do. Below are six jobs and one pick for each. All six are affiliate links to Amazon; the commission doesn’t change which one we’d tell a friend to buy.

First decide: cord, or no cord

This is the whole TESSAN catalog in one question. If the devices are more than arm’s length from the socket — a TV stand, a desk across the room, a workbench — you want a strip with a cord. If the problem is a single socket that needs to be four or eight sockets right there — a nightstand, a kitchen counter, the wall behind the TV — you want a wall extender, which plugs in directly and has no cord to hide.

People who buy the wrong one write the same review: “great product, but it’s dangling off the wall” (a strip bought for a nightstand) or “the cord isn’t long enough” (an extender bought for a desk). Sort yourself into the right half before looking at prices.

Strips with a cord

The 8-outlet flat-plug strip is the default. Eight AC outlets is more than most people need, but TESSAN spaces them so wall-wart chargers don’t block their neighbors, and the plug on the wall end is flat — it sits nearly flush, so a sofa or bed can push right up against it. Three USB ports, one of them USB-C, handle a phone, a watch and earbuds without taking an outlet. The 6-foot cord reaches across a typical room’s corner. At 4.8 stars over 4,800-plus reviews, the complaints are mostly about the USB-C port being slower than a dedicated charger, which is true of every strip in this price range.

The 4-outlet strip with USB-C is what we’d put on a desk. It’s a compact grey bar with four AC outlets, a USB-C port and USB-A, 900 joules of surge protection and a 5-foot cord. Four outlets sounds tight until you notice the USB-C port replaces the laptop brick for anything that charges under about 20 W (most phones, tablets, and some small laptops). Reviews are just as strong as the big strip’s, and it’s four or five dollars cheaper.

If you need more than eight outlets or a longer cord, TESSAN sells 10-foot and 12-outlet variants of the same design; we’d look at those before switching brands.

Wall extenders, no cord

The 8-outlet wall surge protector is the TV-wall answer. It plugs into a standard duplex socket and turns it into eight outlets arranged across three faces, plus two USB-A and one USB-C. Because it’s wall-mounted, it needs the wall socket to be reasonably firm; a few reviews on old, loose sockets mention it sagging under the weight of several plugs. On a normal socket it’s solid, and it’s the only one of the six that includes a surge rating on the listing and still costs under $20.

The mini wall outlet extender is the budget pick and the bedside pick. It’s a small grey block, roughly the size of a deck of cards, with a handful of AC outlets and USB ports. It doesn’t stick out far, which matters next to a bed or in a hallway. 7,000-plus reviews at 4.7 stars, around 3,000 sold a month, and typically $13–$14 with the coupon TESSAN almost always has running. If you’re buying for a college dorm or a guest room, buy two.

Travel adapters: read this paragraph before buying either

TESSAN’s travel adapters are plug adapters, not voltage converters. They change the shape of the prongs so a US plug fits a European or British socket. They do not change the voltage. Phones, laptops, camera chargers, e-readers and electric toothbrushes are almost all “100–240 V” devices (it’s printed in small type on the brick) and work fine on an adapter alone. Hair dryers, curling irons and most kitchen appliances are 120 V only and will burn out on 230 V, adapter or not. TESSAN also sells a separate “voltage converter” for exactly those appliances; it’s heavier and about $36, and if you don’t own a 120 V-only hair tool you don’t need it.

With that said:

The European adapter, 2-pack (Type C) is TESSAN’s best seller and the one to buy for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and most of the continent. Each adapter has four outlets and three USB ports, so one of them on the hotel nightstand covers a couple’s phones, a watch, a Kindle and a laptop. Two in the pack means one for the bedroom and one for the bathroom or the second traveler. Note Type C won’t fit the UK (Type G) or Switzerland (Type J); TESSAN sells 2-packs for both, and a UK 2-pack at around $27 has 2,200-plus reviews if that’s your destination.

The universal travel adapter, 28 W is the one-block solution: slide-out prongs for US, UK, EU and Australia patterns in a single unit, with USB-C and USB-A ports that share 28 W. It costs about the same as the European 2-pack and you get one unit instead of two, so it’s for the traveler whose trips cross plug regions — London to Paris to Sydney — rather than someone who goes to the same country every year. 5,600-plus reviews at 4.6 stars. The recurring complaint is that the universal socket grips some plugs loosely; heavy laptop bricks are better hung from a short extension.

What we’d skip

TESSAN’s small USB-C wall charger blocks (20 W, about $14) are fine but no better than the Anker or Apple equivalents, and there are dozens of listings that are the same product in a different color. The remote-control outlet kits (about $15) are a niche product for lamps and Christmas lights and don’t belong on a power-strip shortlist. And the voltage converter, as above, only makes sense if you’re packing a specific 120 V-only appliance.

Are TESSAN power strips surge protectors?

The 8-outlet flat-plug strip, the 4-outlet desk strip and the 8-outlet wall unit all list surge protection; the 4-outlet strip specifies 900 joules. That’s adequate for phones, lamps and a TV. For a desktop PC or an expensive AV rack, a dedicated 2,000-joule-plus protector from APC or Belkin (not affiliate links) is the safer buy.

Can I daisy-chain a TESSAN strip into an extender?

You can physically, and you shouldn’t. Plugging a strip into an extender into a socket is the setup fire departments warn about. Pick the one product that reaches, and plug it straight into the wall.

Will the European adapter work in the UK?

No. The UK uses Type G (three flat pins); most of the rest of Europe uses Type C. TESSAN sells separate Type G adapters. The universal adapter covers both.

How fast is the USB-C port on the strips?
